Click Image to Enlarge Veo Advanced Connect,

Purchased February 2003, $50.

A nicely sized camera that fits well on a desktop or on top of a CRT monitor. I like the camera's shape and the fact it comes with mutable mounting systems. The image quality is acceptable in bright light but is rather poor in low light. It actually has a better image in bright light than the Logitech QuickCam Messenger for the same price.

The mounting socket is actually a swivel which is part of the camera not the base, so you can mount it in a fixed position, like on an angle bracket fastened to a wall, and it can still be aimed, unlike the other brands. I give it high points for design, average for image quality.

Video Quality

    Pluses
  • Good quality in bright light
  • Full 640x480 pixel CCD sensor
  • Glass lens
  • Comes with 2 stands for desktop or notebook / flat panel mounting
  • Notebook stand makes the camera look like a silver spider, if you like that kind of thing
  • Stand is removable, has a plastic 1/4 inch tripod mount
    Minuses
  • Uses same Twain driver as the Mobile Connect above
  • Poor quality in dim light
  • Lens is poorly mounted and jiggles when you try to focus, let go and focus may shift
  • Few controls in Twain driver
  • Twain driver seems to always default to fluorescent light when computer reboots
  • Spider mount (for notebooks) is too big, won't fit on thin notebooks
